Haven Behavioral Hospital of Philadelphia is pleased to offer training in behavioral health and geriatrics through academic affiliations with several local universities for geriatric psychiatry residency rotation and Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS).
Lisa Olander, Haven of Philadelphia’s Chief Executive Officer, is thrilled to have the opportunity to offer local healthcare students hands on experience in a medical setting.

“With supervision from our Medical Director, Miguel R. Aguilo-Seara, M.D., who brings over 25 years of experience and specializes in Geriatric Neuropsychiary, residents will have an excellent education from their time spent on our state-of-the-art 36-bed psychiatric unit,” stated Olander.

As part of the geriatric psychiatry rotation, each second-year resident will do a 30-day Geriatric Psychiatric rotation with Haven of Philadelphia.  Residents’ primary responsibility will be following patients each week and providing psychopharmacological, as well as psychotherapy management, for a case load of patients. This will include interfacing with relevant disciplines that Haven has on staff such as social service, occupational and behavioral health therapy, nursing, outpatient physicians and family.

Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) is a 34-month program that provides the skills needed to become a leader and innovator in the profession. Haven provides a five-week clinical rotation as part of the program in which students will have hands on experience working with acute behavioral health issues in the geriatric population including dementia or Alzheimer’s.  Students will complete their rotation in the hospital four days per week and complete a field day with one of Haven’s clinical nurse liaisons to experience the external role Haven plays in the community.
